Mickey Wright is an American professional golfer who won 82 LPGA Tour events, including 13 major championships. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1964. Wright was born in San Diego, California, and began playing golf at the age of 12. She won the San Diego City Women's Amateur Championship at the age of 14. She attended Stanford University, where she won the 1954 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. Wright turned professional in 1955 and won her first LPGA Tour event in 1956. She went on to win 82 LPGA Tour events, including 13 major championships. She was the leading money winner on the LPGA Tour four times and was the first woman to earn more than $100,000 in a single season. Wright was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1964. She was also named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1964 and 1965. She retired from competitive golf in 1969 and has since been involved in teaching and golf course design.
