Klaus Maria Brandauer is an Austrian actor, director, and writer. He is best known for his roles in the films Mephisto (1981), Out of Africa (1985), and Never Say Never Again (1983). He has also appeared in numerous television series and films, including The Name of the Rose (1986), The Russia House (1990), and The English Patient (1996). Brandauer was born in Bad Aussee, Styria, Austria, on 22 June 1943. He studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York City. Brandauer has been married twice, first to actress Juliane Köhler and then to actress Andrea Ferreol. He has two children, a son, Maximilian, and a daughter, Anna. Brandauer has won numerous awards for his work, including the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor for Mephisto (1981), the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Out of Africa (1985), and the European Film Award for Best Actor for The Russia House (1990).
