Kevin Phillips is an American professional soccer player who currently plays for the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer. He is a former United States international, having earned 11 caps with the national team between 2002 and 2006. Phillips was born in Staten Island, New York, and attended St. Peter's Boys High School in Staten Island. He played college soccer at Rutgers University, where he was a two-time All-American and the 2001 Big East Player of the Year. Phillips began his professional career with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in 2002. He was traded to the Colorado Rapids in 2004, and has since become one of the most consistent players in MLS. He was named to the MLS Best XI in 2005 and 2006, and was the Rapids' team MVP in 2006. Phillips earned 11 caps with the United States national team between 2002 and 2006. He was a member of the U.S. squad at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and scored his only international goal in a friendly against Jamaica in 2004.
