Deborah K. Jones is an American diplomat and former United States Ambassador to Libya. She was born on October 10, 1956 in Washington, D.C. Jones graduated from the University of Virginia in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in 1981. Jones began her career in the United States Foreign Service in 1981. She served in various positions in the State Department, including as Deputy Chief of Mission in Kuwait, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and Ambassador to Qatar. In 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Jones to be the United States Ambassador to Libya. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 1, 2013 and served in that position until December 2014. In 2015, Jones was appointed as the Special Envoy for Libya by Secretary of State John Kerry. She served in that position until 2017. As of 2021, Deborah K.
